“Women in the Bible” Women’s Bible Study

Picture
Wednesday evenings, for 6 weeks
August 7 - September 11

6:30 - 8:00 pm

Next meeting Sept 4 - See the full schedule of topics by date at bottom of page

This will be a Bible study group that will look at the women in the Old Testament. Feminist theologians have been excavating the life and voice of early Hebrew women depicted in this patriarchal story of a people trying to make sense of themselves and their relationship with Divinity.

Because Christianity rests on the foundation of the Old Testament and because Christianity has influenced our culture and many of our lives profoundly, it can be liberating to explore the same questions feminist theologians have been asking: Is there an equal place for women in this book and religion? Can the Bible be both sacred and limited by the cultural understandings of the time? You’ll be better able to grapple with these questions and others after examining what we can learn from some of the women in the Old Testament.

The group will meet weekly for six (6) weeks.

Eva Abbott will be the leader of this group. She has a Masters in Divinity and a Master of Science in Marriage, Family and Child Counseling. She has lived in Indiana, Pennsylvania, and Louisiana (both shores). Not only does she find that  the women of the Bible speak a revolutionary message instructive to our own time and place, but she is interested in reconstructing and reimagining these women’s lives so often silenced and marginalized by the books’ authors.
