Women on Wednesdays is a bi-weekly advocacy campaign to advance policies for women in Louisiana. Each week, WOW hosts groups of advocates at the State Capitol, to learn about key issues affecting women across our state and the impacts of proposed legislation. Advocates receive training on how to influence the legislative process and have the chance to speak directly to their lawmakers.
Women on Wednesdays will be held at the Louisiana State Capitol from 10 am - 5 pm on the following dates:
May 22 and June 5, 2019

Events like these can provide just what advocates need to keep fighting and can show our state lawmakers how important these issues are to the public.
Carpooling is an option. To go with the Women's Center group on May 22, please register below - or you may opt to attend on your own or with a group of your own, and more logistical info is provided below.

SCHEDULE OF THE DAY:
10:00 AM - Arrive at the Capitol
When you arrive, you will enter the building on the ground level through either door on the right or left of the building. You will have to go through a security check so please make sure you do not bring any weapons. You may be asked to remove laptops or tablets.
Enter the brass/glass doors in the center of the hall and take the elevator to the 1st floor. Look for the table for Women on Wednesdays/Lift Louisiana.
10:15 AM - Tour of the Capitol
10:45 AM - Attend Committee Hearings
Location: Various Committee Rooms
Committees that meet on Wednesdays include:
12:00 PM - Break for Lunch
Location: Cafeteria on the Ground Floor
1:00 PM - Training: What is Lobbying and How To Do It Effectively
Location: Cafeteria
2:00 PM - 4:00 PM - Talking to Your Legislators!
Location: First Floor Rotunda/Senate and House Chambers
During this time we will help you send your legislators a note asking them to speak with you. As your lawmakers come into the “lobby” you will have a chance to tell them why you are there and what issues you care about.
Note: Sometimes the afternoon sessions vary in their start time.
4:00 PM - Evaluation and Wrap Up
We will try to wrap things up around this time. Please complete your evaluation and leave it with one of the WOW liaisons. If you need to leave earlier, no problem! We are so grateful that you came to spend the day with us and your legislators!

1:00 PM - Training: What is Lobbying and How To Do It Effectively
Location: Cafeteria
- We will teach you about how the process of talking to your lawmakers works in Louisiana. We will practice with each other before launching this new, exciting skill with actual lawmakers.
- During this time we also have invited lawmakers to come say hi and let us know about some of the legislation they are working on.
2:00 PM - 4:00 PM - Talking to Your Legislators!
Location: First Floor Rotunda/Senate and House Chambers

River Road levee parking lot
Located in front of The Capitol Park Welcome Center, directly across River Road, is a paved, open-air lot on the levee.
Please exercise extreme care when crossing River Road on your way to The State Capitol.
The Welcome Center Parking Garage
Located at the corner of North Street and River Road.
