Winding Down and Turning In: A Winter Solstice Event

Monday, December 14
6:00 - 7:30 pm (or shorter if it's very cold!)
Facilitated by Carolyn Burns and Patricia Stout
Early Pre-Registration Required, numbers limited to 20
Held in the Women's Center side yard, with access to bathrooms
Masks and distancing required
In preparation for the Winter Solstice 2020 the following week, we gather in person under the night sky to reflect, release, and honor all that has passed in the last year - and what a year it has been. Some of us will bring our basket of grief, many also carry seeds of hope.
For in the words of Valerie Kaur, "What if this darkness is not the darkness of the tomb, but the darkness of the womb? What if this is our transition to something new."
We go deeply into the feminine energy of Yin as we prepare for the darkest night of the year. We gather on the New Moon before the Solstice. We will have a fire pit to release some old ideas and losses into. We will enjoy songs, movement (body prayers), silence, story, and a supportive circle of women.
You will receive a packet of practices to prepare for your own personal quiet time on the actual solstice. To be clear, this gathering is Monday, December 14, and the actual Winter Solstice is Monday, December 21. We meet the week beforehand to support each other in the winding down and turning inward needed to benefit from this time of personal mental introspection, allowing of emotions, physical rest and stillness, and spiritual contemplation and surrender. Then, despite all the distracting energy our outer culture would call us to, we are more able to hear the call of the soul and tend to that inner voice alone when the time comes, in solitude, but with our sisters at our backs in spirit.
Details/What to Bring:
All women are welcome; masks are required. Bring a chair or use ours. Please dress for the weather/ bring a blanket, as we will be outdoors! Feel free to bring a thermos of warm tea or cider to warm your insides. Flashlight and pen are also helpful, and your journal if you like. Please respect the collective space by leaving cellphones off.
Covid Details:
We will sit and stand apart, keep masks on and use a microphone so that we can hear; we will provide hand sanitizer, and we will approach the fire one at a time, not en masse. We respect everyone's health and can feel the spirit of our gathering, while still respecting safety. Thank you for your cooperation.
About the Facilitators:
Carolyn Burns and Patricia Stout have co-led retreats and workshops at the Women's Center's since its opening in 2013, as well as Solstice gatherings and other ceremonies in this community for over 20 years.
Cost:
Donations for the Women's Center for Healing & Transformation can be made ahead online; there will also be a donation basket out at the event. Please give as generously as possible; if you can, "make it a monthly donation" to be a sustainer. At the same time, no one is turned away for financial reasons. Your presence is valued.
