Winding Down and Turning In: A Winter Solstice Event
Sunday, December 19
6:00 - 7:30 pm
Facilitated by Heather Gianndrea and Carolyn Burns
Held in person in the side yard of the Women's Center, with access to the building for restrooms only. Pre-Registration is required; masks are encouraged.
In preparation for the 2021 Winter Solstice later in the week, we gather in person under the night sky to reflect, release, and honor all that has passed in the last year - and what a year it has been. Some of us will bring our basket of grief, many also carry seeds of hope.
For in the words of Valerie Kaur, "What if this darkness is not the darkness of the tomb, but the darkness of the womb? What if this is our transition to something new."
We go deeply into the feminine energy of Yin as we prepare for the darkest night of the year. We gather on the Sunday just before the Solstice. We will have a fire pit to release some old ideas and losses into. We will enjoy songs, movement (body prayers), silence, story, and a supportive circle of women.
This gathering is on Sunday, December 19, and the actual Winter Solstice is Tuesday, December 21. We meet beforehand to support each other in the winding down and turning inward needed to benefit from this time of personal mental introspection, allowing of emotions, physical rest and stillness, and spiritual contemplation and surrender. Then, despite all the distracting energy our outer culture would call us to, we are more able to hear the call of the soul and tend to that inner voice alone when the time comes, in solitude, but with our sisters at our backs in spirit.
Details/What to Bring:
All women are welcome; masks are encouraged. Bring a chair or use ours. Be sure to dress for the weather/ bring a blanket, as we will be outdoors! Please bring a small root vegetable wrapped in tin foil to place in the fire pit to cook. We don't have a long time together so it should be small. We'll use it ceremonially as a kind of communion with the universal elements. Feel free to bring a thermos of warm tea or cider to warm your insides. Flashlight and pen are also helpful, and your journal if you like. Please respect the collective space by leaving cellphones off.
Guidelines for our In-Person Meeting:
While masks are encouraged and hand sanitizer will be provided, we want everyone visiting the Women’s Center to feel comfortable and supported in her decision to mask or not to mask while participating in the program. We respect everyone's health and safety, and in the spirit of our gathering, we are mindful that we're a community and in our community we look out for everyone. Thank you for your cooperation.
Cost:
Donations for the Women's Center for Healing & Transformation can be made ahead online, there will also be a donation basket out at the event. While we appreciate your giving as generously as possible, at the same time no one is turned away for financial reasons. Your presence is valued.
