Why the United Nations is Important for Women

Bruce will discuss efforts at the United Nations to enhance the role of women, including Security Council Resolution 1325 and, subsequently, the creation of the newest UN agency, UN Women, and the UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women. Only seven countries have not signed this UN Convention: United States, Iran, Somalia, Sudan, and two small Pacific Island nations (Palau and Tonga).
