Workshop 1 - January 13 (Beginner level)
Beginners are welcome to experience making a book from scratch. You'll learn the basics and make a usable journal. Those with some experience may also come for the fun and learn something to add to your knowledge.

Workshop 2 - January 28- NEW DATE!
The second of two workshops, this class will include making two styles of covers for the journals and stitching in the pages using a bookbinder’s cradle and sharp tools. While the covers dry, we will be making “pockets” and other small decorative projects as time allows. Beginners are welcome.
If participants who attend the first workshop are interested in going a step further and embellishing their journals by adding decoration and pockets, they are invited and encouraged to register for the second workshop as well. Those who did not attend the first session will get an “accelerated” version in the second class.
Each class is limited to 15 participants. Registration is required. Materials provided for the beginner class include papers for pages, materials for constructing the cover, glue and inks. A suggested materials list will be provided, for those who may have some items at home. Participants are encouraged to bring their scissors, a 12” ruler, and any “junk mail” or magazines (that may be used for decorations) if they wish to.

MEET THE PRESENTER
Leslie Roussel is an experienced artist in several mediums. Vincent Van Gogh and Georgia O’Keefe are two of her favorite artists. Her interests include drawing, beading, and creative paper art, and she still practices what she learned at New Orleans Academy of Fine Arts, with drawing, watercolor, acrylic and oil painting.
Leslie uses found materials, recycling “trash paper” to make journals. She started this during the Covid shutdown, working with a friend (via email) at a time when going out for art supplies was not an option. She began using what was at hand to create interesting objects, and then learned to create books. Leslie's unique beading and book binding items stand out as one-of-a-kind individual, precious pieces.
