The Strength of Women in Shakespeare:
Taking back the Narrative
with Julie Generes
Was Ophelia weak? Was Lady Macbeth guilty?
Join us for this lively discussion exploring the expectations and views of women in Shakespeare's time.
A discussion about how to take the works back, how and why it is important to do so for women today.
How to heal knowing that large forces on the planet are and were always on our side.
Learn about the harm King James and Queen VIctoria caused for women, and why we are still recovering today.
The past must be healed to go forward without fear.
It is not so much about letting go of the past,
but remembering it to motivate healing.
ACTIVITY: Throw prop tomatoes at King James or Queen Victoria- whoever you think deserves it more!
Open to all.
Adults and teens welcome.
This event is part of the Healing Hearts with Art Festival and will take place at Playmakers Theater in Covington.

MEET THE PRESENTER
Julie Generes is happy to be giving this workshop. Her go-to healing and happiness is Shakespeare. She directs theatre, acts occasionally, and teaches theatre. Her most recent stage appearance was a bucket list role as Eleanor in The Lion in Winter alongside her husband as the irascible Henry II. Recently with her friend Jonah, she started the Shakespeare Premier Louisiana Theatre (SPLaT) and will be directing the Scottish Play in the fall. Julie comes from a big theatre/arts family which includes her husband, Eric, eight kids, and too many others to count both here and in the hereafter who also never got rich due to the arts being a demanding master whose ultimate reward is lots of angst alongside hard won happiness.
