"The Art of Asking"

This month's TED talk will be "The Art of Asking," a talk by Amanda Palmer.
Don't make people pay for music, says Amanda Palmer: Let them. In a passionate talk that begins in her days as a street performer (drop a dollar in the hat for the Eight-Foot Bride!), she examines the new relationship between artist and fan. The alt-rock icon believes we shouldn't fight the fact that digital content is freely shareable -- and suggests that artists can and should be directly supported by fans.

On one level, the talk is about how to make art in the internet generation -- how artists can monetize their work by asking for donations rather than being beholden to a record company. But it's also about how we ask for what we need as individuals and what holds us back from using our voices.
"Ideas Worth Spreading"
TED is a non-profit, a global community, a culture that encourages robust, thoughtful observations, feelings and insights. In this spirit, the Women's Center will host a monthly gathering at which a
short TED talk presentation will be shown. A moderator will then lead a discussion about the topic with participants.

All are welcome for these civil discussions about important, fun and thoughtful topics. Each topic will be chosen by the moderator or sponsoring group of the month.
This is a free event, however we appreciate your registration - it helps us know how many to prepare for when planning snacks, number of chairs, etc.
