This workshop will explore myth, story, symbol and metaphor as it relates to insight and development across diagnoses such as depression, anxiety, bipolar, PTSD, adjustment disorders, addictions and compulsive behaviors and attachment disorders. Examples of specific metaphors, archetypes and images for cognitive reframing will be presented.
About the Workshop:
Our time together will include a combination of lecture, small group interaction, participatory demonstration of Visual Journaling, as well as songs and/or video clips, and an opportunity for audience participation. If you have a favorite metaphor for personal growth or healing, please bring it along.

As a result of attending this training:
- Participants will have an understanding of the role of metaphor and whole brain learning in personal growth and development.
- Participants will have many examples of symbols and metaphors for addressing a variety of clinical presentations and for their own insight and growth as a clinician.
- Participants will have initial understanding of assisting clients to generate their own symbols through visual journaling.
Presenter:
Patricia Stout, LCSW-BACS, graduated Summa Cum Laude from SMSU and FSU schools of social work, after obtaining her GED and street cred. She has presented at regional and international conferences. She and her spouse, who is a veteran and fellow meditation enthusiast, have a grown son and two cats.
Her background includes social work in hospitals/medical/geriatric, in schools and children’s camps, mental health clinics, and addictions treatment centers, as well as a part-time private practice since 1992. She is a founder of the Women’s Center for Healing & Transformation in Abita Springs and volunteers as the Co-Director. Her private practice, Breath of Life Counseling, LLC, is located onsite and offers individual and group counseling for men and women. This includes a sexual trauma recovery process group.
Additional certifications include breathwork modalities and Psycho-Spiritual Integration. She is available to other therapists for supervision, private Breathwork sessions, workshops and retreats.
