Life Memories Bracelet Workshop
Thursday, August 23
10:00 am - 2:30 pm
My story isn’t over, but it will come full circle.
With Carolyn Burns, LMFT and MissElaineous Jeweler Elaine Pote
The universe begins with roundness; so say the myths. The great circle, the cosmic egg, the bubble, the spiral, the moon, the zero, the wheel of time, the infinite womb: such are the symbols that try to express a human sense of the wholeness of things… The sacred dance is circular. - Barbara G. Walker “Woman's Dictionary of Symbols and Sacred Objects”
This circle-centered workshop was created to help women connect with their past in a safe, secure and loving environment, while giving attention to that part that needs to create. In this safe environment we’ll bring our mind and body together in the name of balance. We will center our minds as well as our hands and make a magic space to reveal to the world what’s in our hearts. We will use guided imagery, meditation, and journaling to create a piece of jewelry as a personal story-telling conduit. We’ll move on to a sharing circle to honor the work each of us conceived and manifested. There will be stories to share, meditation, and a little Zen music as well. If you have been looking for a way to tell your story, a way to come full circle, this might be it.
Carolyn and Elaine will guide you through the steps to complete your storied bracelet or Memoria Vitae in order to express yourself in a way that’s meaningful to just you. So many women who have participated in this heart-centered depth workshop have expressed feelings of gratitude and wonder at what they’ve experienced. Many women take the workshop only to discover the depths they can plumb; stating that “it’s so much better and meaningful than I could have ever thought.”
Facilitated by Carolyn Burns. Carolyn is a licensed marriage and family therapist on the Northshore. She specializes in relationship issues - struggles with attachment, grief, transition, trauma, etc. She is a mindfulness meditation practitioner and a dancer. She teaches Nia at the Women's Center and enjoys bringing the joy of movement and empowerment through creative action to her students and clients.
Elaine Pote has been beading and making jewelry for over 40 years. Self-taught, she uses beading as a way to meditate. “As I bring my hands to the center of my body, I begin to think of a person, a time, or even an event. I try to infuse my art with love, peace and joy. I want the person wearing it to be enriched; not just by the beauty of the piece, but by the peace and wellbeing I’ve tried to suffuse into it.” Elaine has been a volunteer at the Women’s Center for over 4 years. She has taught many different workshops and classes in that time.
Value: $48 - includes all supplies and guidance. Participants may bring along a special bead or object they'd like to include in their creation.
Please pay in advance (or at least 50% deposit) online to secure your spot. Or mail check made out to "Women's Center for Healing" to 71667 Leveson St., Abita Springs, LA 70420.
