On September 19 - 24, renowned author and psychotherapist Mike Lew, M.Ed., will present a series of events in New Orleans and Abita Springs. The series will include a weekend non-residential workshop for male survivors, an evening for couples, two professional training workshops, and a workshop for female and male survivors together. The events are co-sponsored by the Women's Center for Healing & Transformation and STAR (Sexual Trauma Awareness and Response™). The week's events include:

Allies in Healing: Partnering With Trauma - (New Orleans) - Wednesday, September 19, 6:00 - 9:00 pm
An evening workshop for sexual abuse survivors and their partners. The long-term and often painful process of recovery from sexual abuse has profound effects on relationships. Our goal is to offer a safe, encouraging environment of healing for each partner and the couple. More info
Men Are Different: Exploring New Perspectives on Healing - (Abita Springs) - Thursday, September 20, 9:00 - 5:00 pm
6 hours of Continuing Education credit approved for Social Workers and Counselors. Join us for a workshop in which you'll learn techniques for working with male survivors of sexual trauma. This one-day training workshop for clinicians and others who work with male survivors of sexual abuse - or plan to work with this population - will offer a basic perspective on the issues and needs of male survivors, useful and unhelpful approaches, and issues for professionals working with male survivors. Victims No Longer: Weekend Retreat for Male Survivors - (New Orleans) - Saturday, September 22 & Sunday, September 23 from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm each day
The past years have seen great positive change for people in recovery from childhood trauma, and for males in particular. No longer forced to suffer alone, survivors and professionals continue to develop resources and support systems that move the recovery process forward. Join us for a 2-day retreat for non-offending adult male survivors of sexual child abuse and other sexual trauma at STAR’s office in New Orleans. More info
Healing Together: Recovery Workshop for Survivors - (Abita Springs) - Monday, September 24, 9:00 - 5:00 pm
This full day workshop in beautiful Abita Springs is for non-offending adult female and male survivors of sexual child abuse and other sexual trauma. The workshop/day retreat will provide a variety of healing activities: sharing, writing exercises, emotional expression, group discussion, relaxation and even fun in a safe, nurturing environment. Mike Lew, M.Ed., a psychotherapist and group therapy leader, is Co-Director of The Next Step Counseling and Training Center in Easthampton, Massachusetts. He is the author of Victims No Longer: The Classic Guide for Men Recovering from Sexual Child Abuse.
As a cultural anthropologist specializing in the field of Culture and Personality (Psychological Anthropology), Mike worked with the late Margaret Mead and Colin Turnbull. After further training in Counseling Psychology, he became a leading expert on recovery from sexual child abuse, particularly issues of male survivors. Mike Lew has worked with thousands of men and women in their healing from the effects of childhood sexual abuse, rape, physical violence, emotional abuse and neglect.
