Healing for the Whole Self:
Expressive Drawing for Embodied Awareness and Emotional Regulation
In this workshop we will have the opportunity to safely explore emotions within the body through the expressive drawing process. During our time together, we will approach the opportunity for healing from a multimodal perspective; integrating awareness of the connection between the mind, body and spirit.
If the mind represents the psychological understanding of ourselves and the world around us and the body acts as an influential, though transitory home of flesh and bones; then perhaps the spirit may be understood as the spark that lies within and also far beyond the framework of psyche and skin.
The creative arts process can act as a conduit of sorts, one that lets us channel the ineffable and allows it to take on new forms through image, sensation and language from which we make meaning and build connections. The relationship between our mind, body and spirit is one that can often be fraught with tension, imbalance and estrangement for many of us. It is also one that we can learn to tend to and care for.
When we make space, the expressive arts have an innate capacity to promote healing and facilitate a deeper sense of integration of our whole selves.

MEET THE INSTRUCTOR:
Virginia Jensen Peden is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, certified life coach and kundalini yoga practitioner. In her professional work, she is driven by a desire to support people to develop deeper, more sustainable relationships with themselves and with the people and places in their lives. This work is informed by her training in the expressive arts, integrative somatic trauma work, polyvagal informed practices and psychobiological approaches in therapy. As a trauma informed practitioner, her hope is to always meet people where they’re at–with curiosity, acceptance and compassion. Virginia lives with her family in Lacombe and runs a small psychotherapy private practice in Old Mandeville. When she takes the time and space to really take it all in, she is filled with immense gratitude to be building a life full of some of her most favorite things: creative expression (in its many varied forms), meaningful connections and endless opportunities for learning and growth. |
