Increase Your Confidence - Learn to Defend Yourself
This two-hour self-defense seminar for women and teenage girls (13+) will demonstrate how every woman can learn how to defend herself. Participants will learn and practice five self-defense techniques including being a hard target, escaping from a grab, avoiding being taken to the ground, and defending against punches. These simple, safe, and effective techniques address the most common attacks on women and teach the basics of self-defense.

Suggested cost: $20
In accordance with Women’s Center policy, participants may pay less (Pay-As-You’re-Able) or more (Pay It Forward) than the suggested cost. Sliding scale $15-$25 available.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Heather Botsford was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and grew up in the area. She earned her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in English from Southeastern Louisiana University where she teaches first-year composition and world literature.
In 2015, Heather began practicing Kenpo Karate and Gracie Jiu Jitsu at Covington Karate Studio with her son Ian; today she holds a black belt in Kenpo Karate, a combatives belt in Gracie Jiu Jitsu, and a pink belt in Gracie Jiu Jitsu. Heather teaches Gracie Women Empowered, a self-defense system developed just for women on Tuesdays and Saturdays at Covington Karate Studio. |
