Easing Difficult Emotions with Mindfulness
Tuesday evenings
June 6 - July 18, 2023
6:30 - 8:00 pm
Topic for July 18: Relaxing Limiting Beliefs
Feeling overwhelmed, uprooted, unsettled? Do your emotions seem unmanageable and overpowering? Is your mind an unfriendly and frustrating place?
You are not alone! Join us to gain insight into navigating these tricky terrains and to practice mindfulness tools to help you enjoy more and suffer less. Each 90-minute class will include a short talk, multiple guided meditation practices, sharing, and a question-and-answer period. Each week we will focus on a different topic:
June 6: Taking Refuge from Overwhelm – “I know I need to take a break, but I don’t have time!” – In this class, we will look at the possible causes of overwhelm and discuss small ways of engaging with mindfulness—even on a busy schedule.
June 13: Honoring Grief & Sadness – “I just need to suck it up and move on!” – In this class, we will make space for grief and learn about its necessary and sacred role in preserving wellbeing.
June 20: Engaging with the Wisdom of Anger – “I hate everyone and everything!” – In this class, we will safely get in touch with our feelings of judgment and blame and start to learn what they are trying to tell us.
June 27: Befriending Fear – “I can’t do this! I’m too scared!” – In this class, we will practice bringing compassion and understanding to our fears, so we can move forward and reengage with life in a more joyful way.
July 11: Softening the Inner Critic – “I suck at everything!” – In this class, we will investigate playful and tender ways of working with the disparaging voices in our heads.
July 18: Relaxing Limiting Beliefs – “I am not enough!” – In this class, we will explore ways of disentangling from the thoughts that hold us back.
Though these topics have the potential to be heavy, we will approach them with equal doses of compassion, curiosity, and humor! Attend all the classes or just the ones that are most significant to you.
Though stemming from Vipassana Buddhism, this class is non-religious, and draws from various wisdom traditions. No prior knowledge of mindfulness meditation is required for these classes. They are open to all levels of experience.
Suggested cost: $20 per weekly class (pay-as-able option available)

ABOUT THE PRESENTER
Diana Klein holds a B.A. in psychology from Marist College. She earned certification as a mindfulness meditation teacher through MMTCP, led by Tara Brach and Jack Kornfield and as a coach through Martha Beck's ICF-accredited Wayfinder Life Coach Training Program.
Diana has studied spiritual practices and psychology for over 20 years. During the last decade, mindfulness has played an invaluable role in her life, not only in expanding everyday joy, but also in responding skillfully to multiple life-changing illnesses, including CFS, endometriosis, skin and ovarian cancers, and depression. She teaches mindfulness in the hopes of sharing this understanding and freedom. She began coaching because she loves working 1:1 with people who need a safe space to explore their thoughts and feelings, freeing them to make their best and truest contributions to the world! Born and educated in New York State’s Hudson River Valley, Diana now lives in Louisiana, on Lake Pontchartrain’s north shore, where she meditates, reads, writes, makes art, sings, plays harp, and laughs with her family as much as possible.
