Cultivating Happiness with Mindfulness
Tuesday evenings
August 22 - September 26, 2023
6:30 - 8:00 pm
Led by Diana Klein, Meditation Teacher & Life Coach
Every day, it seems there are more and more reasons to feel disheartened and hopeless. These thoughts and feelings can become so loud and pervasive, they overwhelm us. And, while life’s obstacles are real and challenging, there is so much more to being alive!
Join us to explore the sweet qualities of life and to practice mindfulness tools that help to deepen joy and reduce suffering. Each 90-minute class will include a short talk, multiple guided meditation practices, sharing, and a question-and-answer period. Each week we will focus on a different topic:
August 22: Befriending Yourself & the World – “I want to feel good about myself and other people.” – In this class, we will discuss and practice what teacher Sharon Salzberg calls “The Revolutionary Art of Happiness”.
August 29: Self-Compassion – “Others deserve compassion, but not me.” – In this class, we will explore how to practice self-compassion, its vital importance to personal and collective change, and the obstacles that make it hard.
September 5: Skillfully Caring for Others – “I want to help, but I’m too overwhelmed by the pain in the world.” – In this class, we will discuss the pitfalls of empathy, the wisdom of compassion, and practice caring for others in a non-depleting way.
September 12: Strengthening Joy – “I want to be happy for myself and others.” – In this class, we will examine what gets in the way of being joyful and practice engaging with sympathetic joy.
September 19: Fostering Untouchable Peace – “I want to feel a sense of ease no matter what’s going on in my life.” – In this class, we will investigate the barriers to equanimity and plant the seeds for recurring inner peace.
September 26: Bearing Witness to Our Goodness – “I want to feel worthy.” – In this class, we will explore opening to the truth of our innate worth, wholeness, and goodness.
Register for all the classes or just the ones that are most significant to you.
Though stemming from Vipassana Buddhism, this class is non-religious, and draws from various wisdom traditions. No prior knowledge of mindfulness meditation is required. The classes are open to women of all levels of experience.
Suggested cost: $20 per weekly class (pay-as-able option available)
