This seminar, presented by June M. Williams, Ph.D., LPC-S, will provide an overview of the variety of losses, death-related and non-death related, commonly experienced in older adulthood and provide insight into the grief experiences of adults in later life. 

At the conclusion of this seminar, participants will be able to:
  • Identify a wide range of death-related and non-death related losses typically experienced by older adults;
  • Understand the grief experience of older adults both intrapersonally and interpersonally within the family and larger social context; and
  • Provide interventions and resources for older adults who are grieving and their families.

ABOUT THE PRESENTER
June M. Williams is an associate professor and coordinator of the Counseling program at Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond. She received both her master’s and doctoral degrees at the University of New Orleans. She has served in a variety of leadership positions at both the state and national level including as president of the Louisiana Counseling Association, the American College Counseling Association and Chi Sigma Iota International Counseling Honor Society. She also served for 8 years on the Louisiana LPC Board. She frequently presented on topics related to grief and loss locally, statewide and nationally. At Southeastern she created a course on grief counseling and most recently created and offered an advanced grief counseling course.
