Accessing the Hero Within:
Empowering Frameworks and Strategies for Our Clients and Ourselves During Covid-19 and Beyond
Friday, May 29
1:00 - 4:15 pm
Log-in begins at 12:45 pm
THIS PROGRAM WILL BE HELD ON ZOOM
REGISTER BY 12:00 PM FRIDAY, MAY 29
3.0 Hours Continuing Education credit approved for Social Workers and Counselors (Co-Ed Program)
This course draws on Jungian and transpersonal psychology to help clinicians access their sense of the hero within—and help clients to do the same. Using this empowerment model, clients and clinicians can both honor and transcend habit-driven ways of responding to crisis. This allows for a broadening of their bandwidth of creativity during this Covid-19 crisis (and personal crises, climate crisis, etc.) and beyond.
Referencing the updated version of Carol Pearson’s book The Hero Within: Six Archetypes We Live By, we will look at reframing from a lens of the Hero’s Journey, explore both adaptive and maladaptive aspects of each archetype, and practice specific skills for bringing out the best in each and exploring roads less traveled in order to have more flexibility in coping an improved sense of efficacy, empathy, agency, and self-esteem.
Since we cannot give from an empty vessel, we will also highlight ways to care for ourselves as counselors and social workers, using this symbolic and nurturing model.
Note: this course is designed with the following in mind: individual or group counseling/therapy with adults; still, some tools and views could easily be adapted for those working in case management, larger institutions, or with children, teens and families.
