Me and White Supremacy: Combat Racism, Change the World, and Become a Good Ancestor
Learning about the dangers of systemic racism often leads people to ask: What can I do personally to make a difference?
Layla Saad, an East African, Arab, British, Black, Muslim woman living in Qatar, came up with an impressive answer — a 28-day process that she calls a "personal anti-racism tool" designed to teach those with white privilege how systemic racism works and how they can stop contributing to white supremacy in the world.
Join co-facilitators Catherine Williams and Sally Buras for an 8-week co-ed dialogue and exploration based on Saad's book Me and White Supremacy.
This group will be co-ed, meeting on Zoom. Limited to 10 participants, See registration info below.
Participants are asked to get the book ahead of time and read it, or be in the process of reading it, before we begin as a group. This will allow us to process in more depth. Info on book

When Layla Saad ran a free month-long Instagram challenge during the summer of 2018, she had no idea it would become an international cultural movement.
Thousands of people from around the world were galvanized by the #meandwhitesupremacy challenge, examining and owning responsibility for the ways in which they uphold white supremacy. Over 80,000 people downloaded her guide to the movement, Me and White Supremacy Workbook in the space of just six months. And now, that guide is a published book. Me and White Supremacy: A 28-Day Challenge to Combat Racism, Change the World, and Become a Good Ancestor leads readers through a journey of understanding their white privilege and participation in white supremacy, so that they can stop (often unconsciously) inflicting damage on black, indigenous and people of color, and in turn, help other white people do better, too. The book goes beyond the original workbook by adding more historical and cultural contexts, sharing moving stories and anecdotes, and includes expanded definitions, examples, and further resources. |
About the co-facilitators:
Catherine Williams is a member of the Racial Healing Group of the Women’s Center, a group focused on white people examining their own racial bias issues. She has an MA in Drama Therapy and is a Certified Teacher of the Enneagram of Personality. She is also a SoulCollage® Facilitator. For over 30 years she has led workshops integrating the visual arts, movement and drama, including workshops on embodied whiteness. Her love is to support creative self-expression and the revelation of one’s precious wholeness.
Sally Buras is also a member of the Racial Healing Group. She serves on the board of the New Orleans-Birmingham Psychoanalytic Center and has recently joined the board of the St. Charles Center for Faith and Action, an organization that seeks to bring people of faith and/or conscience together to work at the intersection of faith/conscience and justice. Issues of racial and social justice have been a passion of Sally’s over the last several years, leading her to find opportunities for learning, personal growth and activism. Sally has an ever-challenging 19 year-old son, three dogs and a cat – all of whom make sure she laughs on the regular.
